Thank goodness! Finally someone with some sense! I get so tired of doctors telling me that T.V. is the cause of my child's ADHD. I watched VERY limited television growing up and had/have it just as bad as she does! I hate it when "professionals" make rash assumptions from statistical correlations. Did you know that there is also a direct link between boating accidents and the amount of ice cream someone eats! Because both increase in summer! DUH! I can tell you exactly why children with ADHD watch more T.V. than the general population. Because yes, it does require less strain on the brain for someone with ADHD than other activities, but also because 1. Parents who are at wits end due to the constant activity, tantrums and melt-downs from their ADHD baby, toddler, or child (yeah, I could tell my daughter probably had it when she was a BABY)finally figure out that they can have a peaceful house if they allow there kiddo a little more Dora the Explorer! and 2. Kids with ADHD have trouble shifting focus from one activity to another. This especially applies to T.V., computer, and video games (which is why I have been "stuck" on the computer almost all day...grrr). Once they start watching it is very hard for them to break away in order to pursue other activities. If doctors and researchers would simply spend a little more time communicating with the parents of these children (or adults with ADHD) there would be no need for these silly "studies".
